Book excerpt: A few years ago, I published a book titled Six Decades of Baseball: A Personal Narrative, which described my lifelong passion for baseball, written purely from the perspective of a baseball fan with no inside knowledge of the game. A Voters Journey sets out to do the same thing, only this time with politics. I hope that the telling of my story will encourage the reader to reflect upon his or her own lifelong political journey. For in a society like ours, saturated with politics and elections, each one of us, whether we are politically inclined or not, makes a political journey of some kind or another. This is the story of mine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A reader's delight. a story with nostalgia, history, lost love, suspense and a touch of American Graffiti." Maxine Paetro, New York Times bestselling author "First-time novelist Bob Williams' the Eastside of Town is a cracking good mystery and an even more compelling coming-of-age story. Set in Central Florida in the eventful 1960's, this rapidly paced novel uses the biggest issues of the day-Vietnam, Civil Rights, and the Kennedy assassination as a catalyst in the life of youthful protagonist Tommy Smith. Readers with a taste for mystery and fine fiction will love it." Mary Stanton ( Claudia Bishop ) author of THE BEAUFORT & COMPANY MYSTERIES "Even if you didn't grow up in Central Florida during the 1960's, the Eastside of Town offers a gripping tale of friendship, lost love, coming to terms with coming-of-age...and murder. Bob Williams knows how to tell a tale, but he also knows how to instill a deep sense of place in his writing. Those who remember Orlando as it used to be will enjoy nostalgic references to such favorite old hangouts as Ronnie's Restaurant and the Orlando Youth Center. Along the way, Williams does a masterful job of creating characters who seem like old friends and plotting a story that keeps us riveted until the end." Bob Morris, (Baja Florida, Bahamarama, Jamaica Dead) Five friends who grew up on the eastside of Orlando who experienced fathers returning from WWII, the mysteries of girls, Friday night lights, prom, integration, civil rights, assassinations of President Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., the draft, and the Vietnam War are reunited when Jackie, the girl who taught all of them about passion and compassion, is brutally murdered. Tommy Smith convinces his friends they need to find out what happened to Jackie. This may not have been a good idea.

This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These stories tell of humour, of mystery, of horror, and of oddity. They are told by Lord Henry Curzon, a haunted man helped by a strange doctor, by Miss Celine, a young woman doubting her marriage, by a widow, by a cemetery keeper, by a traveller, by a murderer, and by many more that remain without a name, but certainly not without a story. They are telling of their lives, of their feelings, of their worries, and of their deepest fears. In this, they are humorous, charming, horrifying, and bewildering. Still, they allow insight, not just in their own minds, but in the societies they lived in. There, they are confronted with lost hopes and exaggerated expectations, with the joy of living and the seemingly finality of death, with the sweetness of dreams, and the bitterness of realities, with life as it is and with life as it used to be. Contains the following stories: - The Transcendental Observations of Doctor Hanes Pfahl - The Train Ride - Tierra - The Diamond Ring - The Carriage - A Dream in Colours - The Invisible Men - Diedra - Catching a Poet - The Boy in the Window - A Lesson from a Madman

Summary Book Review The Ladies' Repository by :

Download pdf or read book The Ladies' Repository written by and published by . This book was released on 1867 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of this women's magazine originated with Samuel Williams, a Cincinnati Methodist, who thought that Christian women needed a magazine less worldly than Godey's Lady's Book and Snowden's Lady's Companion. Written largely by ministers, this exceptionally well-printed little magazine contained well-written essays of a moral character, plenty of poetry, articles on historical and scientific matters, and book reviews. Among western writers were Alice Cary, who contributed over a hundred sketches and poems, her sister Phoebe Cary, Otway Curry, Moncure D. Conway, and Joshua R. Giddings; and New England contributors included Mrs. Lydia Sigourney, Hannah F. Gould, and Julia C.R Dorr. By 1851, each issue published a peice of music and two steel plates, usually landscapes or portraits. When Davis E. Clark took over the editorship in 1853, the magazine became brighter and attained a circulation of 40,000. Unlike his predecessors, Clark included fictional pieces and made the Repository a magazine for the whole family. After the war it began to decline and in 1876 was replaced by the National Repository. The Ladies' Repository was an excellent representative of the Methodist mind and heart. Its essays, sketches, and poems, its good steel engravings, and its moral tone gave it a charm all its own. -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
